Published: 25 Jul 2016

With the recent launch of the BHA Catering Guidance, many industry experts have hailed this definitive guide as invaluable to anyone working in the industry.

The new Industry Guide to Good Hygiene Practice: Catering 2016 is the first update to the guidelines for 20 years.

The much anticipated Catering Guide which is recognised by the Food Standards Agency and Food Standards Scotland is a result of collaboration between food safety, hygiene and industry experts.

The Catering Guidance will provide clarity and practical advise on how best to meet food safety legislative requirement and best practice. The aim being to enable catering businesses to procure and sell food which is deemed safe to eat.

The downside of not implementing this guide is that unsafe food could be served to customers which could potentially have dire consequences for all concerned.

The guide includes:

  • Fundamentals of “How to comply with the law”, how to achieve maximum scores in the national Hygiene Ratings Scheme, food safety management, HACCP, staff training requirements and importance of complying with allergen requirements.
