Local authorities in England can now charge for Food Hygiene re-inspections.

Published: 2 May 2017

In line with current policy in Wales and Northern Ireland, The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed that Local authorities in England can now charge restaurants for food hygiene rating re-inspections.
This move will no doubt speed up the process and enable food establishments to apply for a re-inspection as soon as the necessary improvements have been made following the initial inspection.

It has been reported that in that some cases restaurants have needed to wait for several months to years for a re-inspection to be conducted.

Whilst it is not a legal requirement for Local Authorities to charge for re-inspections, fees might be variable for those Local Authorities who do ultimately decide to charge for this service.

If you require any further information and support regarding the re-inspection procedure, please feel free to contact CSC where our team of food safety experts will be happy to advise.
